*Day 152/365 (June 1) PORTIONS TO READ*:

*Solomon's death*

Anarchy of the world - Ecclesiastes 10:1-20

Wise advice - Ecc.11:1-6

Advice to young people -Ecc.11:7-12:8

An optimistic conclusion - Ecc.12:9-14

Solomon's death - 1 Kings 11:41-43, 2 Chronicles 9:29-31

His descendants - 1 Chronicles 3:10-24

The 12 tribes - Genesis 35:23-26, 1 Chr.2:1-2

Judah and his lineage - 1 Chr.4:1-14,16-23

Hezron to David - Ruth 4:19-22

Hezron to David's nephews - 1 Chr.2:9-17

*A thought*:

If wealth and honour alone could satisfy the soul, then Solomon would have known complete fulfillment. His disappointment can be summed up in the words "All is vanity and vexation of spirit". True joy is found not "under the sun", but above the sun - in God's eternal presence.

*Week #22 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 7:9-10

"O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright

in heart"

Sunday, 30 May 2021

31 May 2021

*Day 151/365 (May 31) PORTIONS TO READ*:

*Thoughts about life*

Riches and poverty - Ecclesiastes 5:8-20

Man's inevitable end - Ecc.6:1-12

Incurable evil of man -Ecc.7:1-29

Mystery of divine providence - Ecc.8:1-17

World's wrong values - Ecc.9:1-18

*A thought*:

Faith alone can hold the heart steady in a world where it seems the righteous suffer and the wicked prosper. When we can leave it to the Lord to clear up the difficulties in His

own good time, then we are free to absorb the grace that enables us to turn the difficulties

into doors of opportunity.

*Week #22 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 7:9-10

"O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the

wicked and make the righteous secure. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart"

Saturday, 29 May 2021

30 May 2021

*Day 150/365 (May 30) PORTIONS TO READ*:

*The contradictions of life*

Wisdom is vain - Ecclesiastes 1:12-18

Emptiness of pleasure - Ecc.2:1-3

Vanity of material wealth -Ecc.2:4-11

Result of wisdom and folly - Ecc.2:12-26

A time for everything - Ecc.3:1-8

Weariness of life - Ecc.3:9-22

The foolishness of trusting in riches - Psalm 49:1-20

Oppressions and inequalities of life - Ecc.4:1-16

Warning against rash promises - Ecc.5:1-7

*A thought*:

One question Christians frequently ask is this: how can we make sense out of the apparently meaningless events of life? There is only one way. We must endeavour to see life "from God's point of view". You can't make sense out of life, but you can make sense out of God.

*Week #22 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 7:9-10

"O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright

in heart"

Friday, 28 May 2021

29 May 2021

*Day 149/365 (May 29) PORTIONS TO READ*:

Rezon - I Kin.11:23-25

Jeroboam - I Kin.11:26-40

Unhappy condition of backsliders - Ecclesiastes 1:1-11

*A thought*:

Wisdom and greatness, although admirable and highly desirable qualities, are insufficient in themselves to guarantee spiritual progress and stability. We must walk in daily dependence upon God - or else, like Solomon, we will fall and fail.

*Week #22 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 7:9-10

"O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright

in heart"

Thursday, 27 May 2021

Other maxims - Pro.27:1-27

Contrast between good and evil - Pro.28:1-18

The way to lasting wealth - Pro.28:19-28

*A thought*:

Ever been hurt by a friend who told you the truth about yourself? Well, according to Proverbs 27:5-6, that's what friends are for! If you don't have a friend such as Proverbs describes, then be such a friend - perhaps today.

*Week #22 Memory Verse*: (We're starting a new week)

Psalm 7:9-10

"O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright

in heart"

The blessing of a wise son - Pro.23:15-25

Warnings against vice - Pro.23:26-35

The way of wisdom - Pro.24:1-14

*A thought*:

Are you aware of what God wants to happen to you as you read these proverbs? If not, take a look at Proverbs 22:17-21. He wants you (1) to absorb their truth into your personality, so that (2) your trust in Him might be deepened, and (3) that His truth might be passed on, through you, to others. Are you letting that happen?

*Week #21 Memory Verse*: (last chance to memorize this verse. Will moving into Week #22 tomorrow)

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

26 May 2021

*Day 146/365 (May 26) PORTIONS TO READ*:

The way of knowledge and justice - Pro.18:15-18

The power of the tongue - Pro.18:19-24

Personal conduct - Pro.19:1-29

*A thought*:

Question: Why do so many Christians land up in trouble?

Answer: one major reason is pride (see Pro.18:12). It was this that made a devil out of an angel and emptied heaven of many of its inhabitants (see Isa.14:12-14 & Jude 6).

Watch out that it doesn't topple you!

*Week #21 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Monday, 24 May 2021

25 May 2021

*Day 145/365 (May 25) PORTIONS TO READ*:

*The benefits of righteousness*

The benefits of righteousness (contd.) - Proverbs 11:7-11

The rich and the poor - Pro.13:7-25

Contrast between wise and foolish - Pro.14:1-35

Wisdom, the better way - Pro.15:1-19

*A thought*:

Words are more powerful than we realise. When God "spoke", He created a world -a glorious cosmos. And when you speak, you too, create a world - a world of harmony, or a world of disharmony. Ask yourself now: what kind of world will I create by my words today?

*Week #21 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer

Sunday, 23 May 2021

Wisdom and foolishness - Pro.9:1-18

Solomon's proverbs - Pro.10:1

The benefits of righteousness - Pro.10:2-32, 11:1-6

*A thought*:

One of the greatest definitions of wisdom, and one based on the Scriptures is this: wisdom is "seeing life from God's point of view" (Colossians 1:9, J.B.Philips). The proverbs you are now reading are part of God's plan to make you wise, or, in other words, to help you see life "from God's point of view".

*Week #21 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Saturday, 22 May 2021

23 May 2021

*Day 143/365 (May 23) PORTIONS TO READ*:

Warning against adultery - Pro.5:1-23

Caution about putting up security - Pro.6:1-5

Warning against laziness - Pro.6:6-11

Things God hates - Pro.6:12-19

*A thought*:

Have you ever reflected on what wisdom really is? "Wisdom", said a great man, "is more than knowledge: knowledge is just knowing things but wisdom is the ability to put knowledge to its best effect". Ask God once again to help you "wise up".

*Week #21 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Friday, 21 May 2021

Solomon's wealth - 2 Chronicles 9:20,27,22-24, 1 Kings 4:26, 10:26,28-29, 2 Chr.1:14,16-17,

9:25,28

A hymn in time of national trouble - Psa.89:1-52

Value of proverbs - Proverbs 1:1-6

Advice to young men - Pro.1:7-19

*A thought*:

If, today, God told you that you could have whatever you wanted - what would you choose? Wealth? Fame? Happiness? Solomon, when faced with that question, chose the greatest of all qualities - wisdom. And God was so pleased with his request that He added riches and honour also.

*Week #21 Memory Verse*:

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

*Solomon and the queen of Sheba*

Levy of forced labour - 1 Kings 9:20-23 & 15, 2 Chronicles 8:7-10

Building the cities - 1 Kin.9:16-19, 2 Chr.8:4-6

Burnt offerings - 1 Kin.9:25, 2 Chr.8:12-16.

Solomon's prosperity - 1 Kin.9:26-28, 10:22, 2 Chr.8:17-18, 9:21

The Queen of Sheba - 1 Kin.10:1-13, 2 Chr.9:1-12

Solomon's wealth - 1 Kin.10:14-21, 27, 23-25, 2 Chr.1:15, 9:13-19

*A thought*:

When the Queen of Sheba saw the magnitude of Solomon's wealth and wisdom, her conclusion was that "not even half was told me". Those who come to God through His Son Jesus Christ arrive at a similar conclusion. Jesus is such a wonder that the combined reports of all the teachers and preachers who have ever lived cannot do Him justice.

*Week #21 Memory Verse*:(We're starting a new week)

Psalm 19:14 - (why don't you check it out by yourself in your Bible? This is a smart prayer to pray everyday) May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer

Wednesday, 19 May 2021

20 May 2021

*Day 140/365 (May 20) PORTIONS TO READ*:

*Bride and bridegroom*

Love's beginning - Song of Songs 2:1-7

Love's absence - Song of Songs 2:8-17, 3:1-5

Love's restoration - Song of Songs 3:6-11, 4:1-16, 5:1

Love delayed - Song of Songs 5:2-16, 6:1-3

Love's fulfilment - Song of Songs 6:4-13, 7:1-13, 8:1-4

Love's triumph - Song of Songs 8:5-14

*A thought*:

A Popular modern conception of "love" is "never having to

say you are sorry". This implies that where true love exists, asking forgiveness is unnecessary. But is it? Solomon's bride did not think so. Love means wanting to say you are sorry-and saying it.

*Week #20 Memory Verse*:

Hebrews 13:20-21

"May the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and

ever..."

God, the supreme King - Psalm 99:1-9

A hymn of praise - Psalm 100:1-5

Building programme finished - 1 Kings 9:1, 2 Chronicles 7:11

God warned Solomon - 1 Kings 9:2-9,2 Chronicles 7:12-22

Solomon and Hiram - 1 Kings 9:10-14, 2 Chronicles 8:1-2

HamathZobah conquered - 2 Chronicles 8:3

Solomon's wife's house - 1 Kings 9:24,2 Chronicles 8:11

Love's beginning - Song of Solomon 1:1-17

*A thought*:

Another evidence of Solomon's wisdom was the fact that he had his priorities in the right order - he build a house for God before he built one for himself. When we put God first, then prosperity and blessing follow. Whose interests come first in your life? Yours - or God's?

*Week #20 Memory Verse*:

Hebrews 13:20-21

"May the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and

ever..."

He pleads for forgiveness - 1 Kings 8:27-30, 2 Chronicles 6:18-21

He prays for God's justice - 1 Kings 8:31-32, 2 Chronicles 6:22-23

He prays for mercy - 1 Kings 8:33-40, 2 Chronicles 6:24-31

Prayer for Israelites - 1 Kings 8:46-53, 2 Chronicles 6:36-39

His final petitions - 2 Chronicles 6:40-42

Solomon's blessing and exhortation - 1 Kings 8:54-61

*A thought*:

The prayers of God's servants in the Old Testament, Solomon's included, contain a common characteristic -spiritual boldness. This boldness stemmed from their knowledge that God was under an obligation to fulfil his promises (see 1 Kings 8:25). Follow this exhortation principle, and it could add a whole new dimension to your prayer life.

*Week #20 Memory Verse*:

Hebrews 13:20-21

"May the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He

work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and

ever..."

A hymn of thanksgiving - Psalm 136:1-26

Solomon's address - 1 Kings 8:12-21, 2 Chronicles 6:1-11

*A thought*:

God required not only that the temple be builtfor Him but also dedicated to Him. Dedicationgoes further than hoping God will accept whatwe offer - it gathers up those

hopes in a distinctand definite commitment. Don't just hopeGod will use you - dedicate your talents to Him - now.

*Week #20 Memory Verse*:

Hebrews 13:20-21

"May the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He

Solomon's buildings - 1 Kin.7:1-12

Temple furnishings - 1 Kin.7:15-50, 2 Chronicles 4:1-22

*A thought*:

The priests who ministered in Solomon's temple were required to cleanse themselves frequently as they ministered before the Lord.

*Week #20 Memory Verse*:

Hebrews 13:20-21

God's ideal woman - Prov.31:10-31

The construction of the temple - 1 Kin.6:1-10, 14-37, 2 Chronicles 3:1-14

*A thought*:

Solomon's temple was constructed not only with infinite care, but with the minimum of noise: "no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard" (1Kings 6:7). Clamour and frenzy hinder rather than foster spiritual growth. God's kingdom develops, not with great noise and the fanfare of trumpets, but quietly, effortlessly and silently.

*Week #20 Memory Verse*:

Hebrews 13:20-21 "May the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He

work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and

His treaty with Hiram - 2 Chronicles 2:1, 3-16

His workmen - 1 Kin.5:13-18, 2 Chr.2:2, 17-18

*A thought*:

Building a temple for the worship of God was a colossal task. It involved careful planning, skillful negotiation and great faith. But Solomon discovered, as will you, that God's work done in God's way will receive God's support.

*Week #20 Memory Verse*: (we're starting a new week)

His prayer for wisdom - 1 Kin.3:5-15, 2 Chr.1:7-12

His return to Jerusalem - 2 Chr.1:13

*A thought*:

Great though Solomon became in wisdom, riches and honour, the most significant thing that was ever said about him was that "he loved the Lord" (1 Kings 3:3 Amplified Version). Would those words be true of you if they were written on your epitaph?

*Week #19 Memory Verse:* (last chance to memorize since we'll move to a new week tomorrow)

His death - 1 Kin.2:10, 1 Chr.29:28-30

Unclassified psalms of David - Psa.37:1-40, 138:1-8

*A thought*:

A great man's final

words are usually carefully noted and recorded for posterity. This is how it was with Moses, David, Elijah - and with many others. You have read David's last words - now read the last words of Jesus (Acts 1:8). Are they saying something to you - today?

*Week #19 Memory Verse*:

David had only to contemplate the glories of creation and his heart would swell in endless praise. Ever tried to compose a psalm? Try it today. Meditate on God's love and goodness as it relates to your life, and then compose your own personal song of praise.

Singers and musicians - 1 Chr.25:1-31

*A thought*:

In Christ's Church, as in Solomon's Temple, everyone has a place and a purpose. Have you discovered your place in the Body of Christ? If not, you may end up trying to do someone else's job instead of your own. And that's frustrating!

*Week #19 Memory Verse*:

Romans 12:5-6

"... in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us..."

*A thought*:

The knowledge that David's son, Solomon, had come to the throne of Israel caused the heart of every true Israelite to rejoice. But here is a reason for greater joy: Jesus - "the son of David" - has ascended a throne from which He will never be deposed. Hallelujah! Our Lord reigns!

David's sacrifice - 2 Sam.24:18-25, 1 Chr.21:18-30

*A thought*:

In the light of

David's sacrificial giving, examine your own attitude to this important matter. Some give like a sponge - only when they are squeezed. Others give like Moses' rock - only when they are hit. But others give like a flower opening up to the sun - they delight to give. The latter was David's method. What's yours?

*Week #19 Memory Verse*:(we're starting a new week)

*A thought*:

The quarrel between the men of Israel

and the men of Judah (whose words were "fiercer than the words of the men of Israel" 2 Sam.19:43 (Amplified Version)) might have been avoided if they had acted according to the key truth in Proverbs 15:1. Try it the next time you find yourself on the verge of a quarrel.

*Week #18 Memory Verse*:

Isaiah 48:17

This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go'.

*A thought*:

"The true measure of a person", said someone, "is not only in their readiness to ask forgiveness of those against whom they have sinned, but in their willingness to forgive those who have sinned against them". By that standard, David was great. How about you?

*Week #18 Memory Verse*:

Isaiah 48:17

This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go'

A prayer for help - Psa.120:1-7

The Lord our protector - Psa.121:1-8

Absalom is slain - 2 Samuel 18:1-18

*A thought*:

How ironic that Absalom's glory - a head of hair, from which seven pounds in weight was trimmed annually - proved to be the cause of his death. Be careful about your strengths

- they may turn out to be your greatest weaknesses.

*Week #18 Memory Verse*:

Isaiah 48:17

This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go'

David's prayer for help - Psa.28:1-9, 143:1-12

David's praises to God - Psa.40:1-12

*A thought*:

Someone has said that there are two ways handling life's problems: we can either let them drive us to despair - or drive us to prayer. David learned how to turn his irritations into intercessions. Have you?

*Week #18 Memory Verse*:

Isaiah 48:17

This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go'

Ahithopel and Hushai advise Absalom - 2 Sam.17:1-14

David escapes - 2 Sam.17:15-24

*A thought*:

How do you feel when you are ridiculed or abused? David did not allow Shimei's cursing to provoke him to anger, but viewed it as a "divine reproof". How much easier it is to stand up to life when we can make all things serve!

*Week #18 Memory Verse*:

Isaiah 48:17

This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.'
